Cooling a Legend!
Where Engineering Excellence Meets Family-Owned Grit
July 2024
In a transport industry that demands reliability, performance, and constant innovation, Palm Trans stands as a benchmark for integrity and ingenuity. Since its founding in 1989 by Darren Palmer, the family-owned company has grown into a formidable force—operating more than 50 prime movers across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, with a focus on local freight, express interstate, and container cartage.
Now, in a milestone moment for the business, Palm Trans has taken its long-standing partnership with Innotherm to new heights—delivering a one-of-a-kind engineering feat that bridges the past and the future of Australian trucking.
At the heart of this latest collaboration is a 1987 Kenworth SAR—a truck steeped in heritage and originally purchased by Palm Trans in 2018. What began as a restoration project soon evolved into a comprehensive rebuild, complete with a Gen 2 Signature 15 Cummins engine and a bespoke Innotherm cooling module, crafted to handle the intense thermal loads of modern engines while preserving the classic SAR look.
“The engine heat versus the available area to fit a radiator is very tight—there’s not much under-bonnet space to work with,” explained Chris Mifsud from Palm Trans. “But despite that, we’ve committed to staying within the envelope of the original radiator that was removed, measured, and modelled by Innotherm.”
Engineering Without Compromise
The Innotherm team delivered a custom intercooler and radiator system, designed to handle the heat output of the powerful Cummins engine—all while maintaining the original lines of the Kenworth SAR. This seamless integration showcases Innotherm’s precision engineering capabilities and their commitment to solutions that work in the real world.
“We wanted a prime mover that restoration enthusiasts could admire, but that could also get to work if needed,” Chris added. “The collaboration and knowledge from both teams made that possible.”
Forged in 2011, the partnership between Palm Trans and Innotherm has become a story of shared values—technical excellence, trust, and a mutual passion for quality workmanship.
As Palm Trans continues to grow and evolve, this project is a clear reminder of what’s possible when industry experience meets innovation—and when two proudly Australian businesses refuse to compromise on doing things the right way.
InnoTherm’s Terminator Fan Clutch Gains Momentum with Paccar
March 2024
InnoTherm is strengthening its collaboration with Kenworth Trucks and Paccar Australia, driven by the growing success of its Terminator (T2) heavy-duty fan clutch technology. Since September 2023, the Terminator T2 two-speed fan clutch has been available as a published first-fit option for Kenworth Trucks—providing customers with a premium cooling solution when specifying their new vehicles.
First introduced to the Australian market in 2015, the Terminator clutch has earned a strong reputation across the K200 and K220 platforms for reliability, performance, and innovation.
Key Features and Benefits:
- Patented steel-on-steel cone drive with a lifetime low-wear alloy wedge friction material—no replacement or overhaul needed.
- The two-speed design maintains consistent airflow through the engine bay, reducing thermal stress and enhancing cooling efficiency.
- Built with a failsafe ON mode, high torque capacity, and simplified service kits, Terminator clutches deliver exceptional durability and ease of maintenance.
- Field data confirms significant reductions in fan-on time compared to traditional on/off clutches—translating to lower fuel consumption, extended component life, and greater driver comfort.
Due to increasing demand, the Terminator range is expanding to support additional Kenworth models, including T909, T659, T610/T610SAR, T609, and C509.
Product release dates to follow—stay tuned.
